DONNA LEON

Producer/Director/Writer

Donna has been working in the broadcasting industry for more than 23 years. During that time, she has produced, written and directed more than 100 hours of network television, including a number of series, more than a dozen documentaries and several specials, including drama, comedy and music videos. A seven-time ACTRA nominee, she has won the award twice (Documentary Writer/Performer and Sportscaster of the Year).

During the past ten years, Donna has founded two independent production companies whose programs have garnered local and national awards. She wrote, produced and directed the one-hour documentary Reluctant Hero: The Life & Times of Donald Marshall Junior, which received two Gemini nominations in 2002, including Best Biography Documentary.

Donna has served as Co-President of Women in Film & Television, Ottawa-Hull and is a member of the Canadian Film & Television Production Association (CFTPA), the Broadcast Educators Association of Canada, The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television and the Canadian Media Guild. She is a 2003 recipient of the Y Women of Distinction Awards for Arts & Cultural contributions to the community.

Donna is a hands-on producer/director who has a background in lighting, videography and editing. She taught EFP, documentary production, writing and business management at Algonquin College in Ottawa for 16 years, and has been a contributor to CBC radio as a broadcast journalist, host, producer and news editor for the past 18 years.
